The Perfect Pair

An all-too-common scenario: You've spotted the perfect jeans, go to try them on, and DAMN! The pockets emphasize your junk, or the wash is unflattering, or they ride too low, or...the list goes on. The Kate Mosses of the world all have one thing in common: Their jeans really fit. Head over to Nolita's newly expanded Denim Bar, and you'll see what I mean. Snag exclusive designs and try on the latest and greatest brands, finishes, rises, washes and cuts—all tailored to accentuate everything you want and nothing you don't. Nolita, 923 NW 10th Ave., 274-7114. 7-10 pm. Free.

Eye of the Beholder

With his intimately beautiful, shadowy, enigmatic portraits and vintage Polaroid charm, you'll find yourself falling for photographer Yoni Kifle's modern-bohemian subjects. Kifle creates an invariable connection between camera and subject, summoning a "Don't I know you?" feeling from every viewer who sets eyes on the strangers he captures. Reading Frenzy, 921 SW Oak St., 274-1449. 6-9 pm. Free.

Thurs-Sun May 4-7

Arriba! Arriba!

Where would we be if double-decker tacos, salsa music and tequila never crossed the border? Not to mention a little Cinco de Mayo action? Sí, mi hombre, this commemoration of Mexico's victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla is yet another holiday that Americans have adopted in order to get sauced. Delight in the 22nd annual fiesta at Portland's Waterfront Park, brimming with Latin grooves, flavorful eats, candy-filled piñatas, fireworks and more. Tom McCall Waterfront Park, 1020 SW Naito Parkway, 224-4400. Thursday-Saturday 11 am-11 pm, Sunday 11 am-9 pm. $5-$6 (free before 2 pm).

Friday May 5

For those of you merely in it for the drunken madness, este autobus is for you. Round up your best amigos and board Barfly's Cinco de Drinko Bus—which will hit up eight to 10 of your favorite cantinas (depending on when you lose your ability to stumble off the bus). Sweet deals on drinks and finger-food are included, and cover charges are taken care of: Whoopee! For more info, call 813-9999 or visit barflymag.com. 7 pm-1 am. $19 (groups of 10, $170). 21+.

Geek Love

According to an Internet dictionary, the term "geek" refers to "one who eats (computer) bugs for a living, and is an asocial, malodorous, pasty-faced monomaniac with all the personality of a cheese grater." Now there's strong evidence to the contrary, dear friends: Free Geek's Geek Prom. So dig out your pocket-protectors and hike your slacks up to new heights—the modern geek can get down, too. Just because you were wrongly overlooked in years past, surely, no one can mistake your rightful title as Prom King or Queen this time around. If all else fails, just bust out the "Urkel." Acme, 1305 SE 8th Ave., 230-9020. 9 pm. $6-$10. 21+.

If You Smoke Like I Smoke...

OK, so 4:20 was two weeks ago, but here's another commemoration of Oregon's primary crop. The 2006 Million Marijuana March is more than just a bunch of stoners fighting for their right to smoke the almighty doobage: It's a bunch of stoners getting together and putting paper bags over their heads and dancing with "cannabis dragons." OK, it's also an initiative to make adult marijuana offenses the lowest priority of local police. In effect, a march and rally will be held featuring local MJ activists. Pioneer Courthouse Square, Southwest 6th Avenue and Morrison Street. For more info, call 239-6110 or visit ornorml.org. Gathering at 11 am, march at noon. Free.

P:earblossoms

Here's a chance to give to those who need it and rest assured that your money will support a worthy cause. Local community outreach program p:ear serves more than 450 homeless and transitional youths through art, education and recreation. This year, its annual fundraising event, p:earblossoms, features an aerial performance by Aviator and an auction. Yes, I know that one guy whose sign reads, "My girlfriend was abducted by ninjas, need money for kung-fu lessons," is quite clever, but save your spare change for p:ear—their mission's a tad more believable. Wieden & Kennedy Atrium, 224 NW 13th Ave., 228-6677. 6-9 pm. $75 for single tickets (2 for $130).
