Where can we get some ice cream?

[May 3rd, 2006] "Where can we get some ice cream?" I'm sitting on the stand at the Lloyd Center Doubletree, when a couple knocks on my window and asks this question. Without hesitation I suggest Pix Patisserie, a few minutes away.

They do hesitate, however, because the concierge has told them that the closest thing would be to just go to the Safeway a few blocks away, which is where they decide to go. Then they spend the rest of the way second-guessing their decision. I spend the rest of the way explaining what Pix is.

"No, you see, this isn't like going to 31 flavors. This is hand-made gourmet ice cream. I had a habanero ice cream there that was the most perfect thing under the sun. The chocolate blended perfectly with the pepper, the pepper's bite perfectly counterbalanced by the ice cream's coolness." They go into Safeway, come out discouraged, and decide to accept my advice.

As we get closer to North Williams and Failing, the neighborhood looks emptier; they are looking dubious when suddenly there is Pix on the corner, packed as always. I offer them my number so they can call me for a ride afterward and tell me how right I was. Later they do so, and they are not only in awe of Pix, but disgusted with their hotel concierge for not knowing about it. And then the kicker: They're part of Bon Jovi's crew, and intend to come back tomorrow and essentially clean the place out and bring stuff back for the band.
