The Fucking Champs

1 am, Dante’s

BY ERIK BADER | 503 243-2122

[August 29th, 2007] [HESHER METAL] The Fucking Champs isn’t so much a band as an art project. Here’s the guise: A few indie dudes who don’t listen to metal at all—in this case, drummer Tim Soete and guitarists Tim Green and Josh Smith (later replaced by Trans Am’s Phillip Manley)—nonetheless asked themselves a most pertinent question: “What would it be like to be the greatest technical metal musicians of all time?” Thus began the Champs’ journey. From there, the band (who, rumor has it, added “Fucking” to piss off their parents) went ahead and added keyboards—ostensibly because the only thing more complicated than metal is prog metal. Did I mention one of their members was in Nation of Ulysses? Yup, Green was. But if I told you Judas Priest, you’d probably believe that, too.

Cool. So, uh, are they playing here? I'd like to know when/where.

(way to include the most important details. Reporting at its finest!)

It was a simple display problem, Confused. It's fixed now.

The band members names are accurate, and Tim Green was in Ulysses. You couldn't be more wrong about the rest. Reporting at its finest indeed.

They added Fucking because there was already a band named "the Champs" who threatened to sue them when they chose that name. Where's the research? This article is a string of assumptions and misinformation.
