Pearl Bakery

BY WW EDITORIAL STAFF | 503-243-2122

[March 19th, 2008] Weekend slackers arriving an hour before closing will still find a damn good sandwich at this grand dame of Portland’s artisan bakeries. We recommend the hummus and feta with shaved carrot on wheat ($5) and a homey baked good, like a rich chocolate shortbread cookie ($1.25) or the multi-chocolated brownie ($2) with a ribbon of raspberry running through it like a flavorful current. It’s nice to know someone in the Pearl hasn’t choked on their own pretension. (SS)

102 NW 9th Ave., 827-0910. Breakfast and lunch daily.
