Stepping Stone Cafe

BY WW EDITORIAL STAFF | 503-243-2122

[March 19th, 2008] After a recent lunch interview at this venerable greasy spoon, a theater director visiting from Mexico said, “This is wonderful. This is United States.” Aw, hell yeah. Irreverently friendly Stepping Stone is a comprehensive survey of American culinary appropriations, from thick French toast ($5.25) and cheese blintzes ($5.75) to hamburgers ($6.25-$7.95) and Greek salad ($7.50). Bring us your huddled masses, recipes in hand! We’ll eat whatever you’ve got, only greasier and with more salt. It’s not all borrowed, though. Stepping Stone grills one of the best all-American Reubens in town. (BW)
