U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) and former presidential hopeful Howard Dean hosted a town hall meeting at PCC’s Cascade campus June 5 to discuss healthcare reform. Tickets ran out weeks earlier and attendance was ultimately decided by a lottery.

For the first time since opening in 1880, SP Provisions has issued a recall on about 40,000 pounds of ground beef, after E. coli was detected in tested samples. SP supplies restaurants, hotels and other institutions throughout Oregon and Washington.

The annual milk carton boat race in Westmoreland Park took place June 7. That’s the first time since 2002, when the park’s pond closed due to disrepair and arguments over water rights.

Greg’s Backyard restaurant was held up June 4 when a man came in at 6 am, pointed a gun at a bartender and demanded money from the register. Apparently impatient, he turned the gun on two customers while the cash drawer was being opened and stole their wallets. The thief remains at large.
