[December 3rd, 2003] It's that time of year when the Look mailbox fills to bursting with perky pink postcards, each one advertising a holiday bazaar displaying the goods of local artists and designers.

And really, why not buy your gifts here? Your much-deserved ducats will stay in the community, and the support will enable local creative folk to keep stitching and beading. Think of it as your charitable contribution to Portland's fashion future. Now, get out there and spend, spend, spend!

The Phunhouse Holiday Sale

1920 N Kilpatrick St., 240-0802. 6-9 pm Friday, 10 am-5 pm Saturday, 11 am-3 pm Sunday, Dec. 5-7.

Eight artists, all from North and Northeast Portland, join fiber artist/store owner Peggy Flynn for another one of her outrageous sales and the inauguration of her brand-new showroom. See handmade items (many under $20) from local creative crafters, including Lisa Onstad, Kelly Pergande, Christy Eugenis and Victoria Christen.

Glitter on Glisan

3116 NE Glisan St. 6-9 pm Friday, 11 am-6 pm Saturday, noon-5 pm Sunday, Dec. 5-7.

Seven local artists team up for their fourth annual bazaar of one-off gifts. Find Jennifer Doheny's Urban Bird illustrated greeting cards, paper lanterns by Helen Hiebert, Jennifer Loring's handmade candles, leather guitar straps and watchbands by Allison Roller, and other clever oddments.

Riches at Rimsky's

Rimsky-Korsakoffee House, 707 SE 12th Ave., 232-2640. 11 am-5 pm Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 6-7.

Now in its second year, Riches brings together 11 women artists showcasing original art, clothing, jewelry, papercrafts, glass, journals and more, more, more. Rimsky's will also be hosting a mini-boutique every Friday evening from 8 to 11 from now until Christmas.

Handmade Holiday Bazaar

Ella/Posie, 2337 E Burnside St., 236 2933. Noon-6 pm Sunday, Dec. 7.

Twenty-eight vendors selling semi-precious jewelry, plush handknits, natural body-care products, paper goods, handbags, photo albums, baby gear and other sweet mischief will be on hand at this eastside boutique. Hot chocolate with marshmallows and mini-massages will help assuage your retail fatigue.

The Holiday Bobble

It's a Beautiful Pizza, 3342 SE Belmont St., 233-5444. 10 am-6 pm Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 13-14.

This small art collective meets once a year to offer up arty gifts--including crocheted hats, purses, ceramic and Latino crafts--for less than 50 bucks.

Super Elf Holiday Trunk Show

Le Happy, 1011 NW 16th Ave. 7-9 pm Thursday, Dec. 11.

Johnny Schultz will show his eclectic handbags and shirts, Cloacine lays out jewelry, and Lydia Pagett and Mike King team up on lady T-shirts.

PedX/Loft Holiday Gift Bazaar

5018 NE 22nd Ave., 460-0760.

11 am-6 pm Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 13-14.

Lisa Bauso's photographic survey of found objects will be the backdrop for this upstairs gallery sale at the popular Alberta shoe store. Browse children's fleece clothing, bottlecap magnets and belt buckles, journals and photo albums fashioned from old books, jewelry, embroidered clothing for women--plus PedX's inventory of traffic-stopping footwear.

Mindful Gifts Bazaar

10 am-4 pm Saturday, Dec. 13.

At this fundraising bazaar, you'll find meaningful, unique and affordable gifts representing the services or projects of dozens of local nonprofits. Get up close and personal with 50 of the region's small nonprofit organizations, including the Rivers Foundation of the Americas, p:ear, WomanTree, The Hambleton Project, North Portland Bikeworks and Native American Youth Association.

Giant Dwarf's Handmade Bazaar

3027 NE Irving St. Noon-4 pm Saturday, Dec. 13.

Crafter Sue Eggen invites her friends to show off handmade purses, hats, wallets, scarves, leg warmers (!) and the like.

Holiday Bazaar

Twenty-one vendors selling handmade crafty items to last-minute shoppers--plus oodles of utterly adorable (and adoptable!) pets (the shelter stays open until 7 both evenings). Come on, haven't you always wanted to give someone that wriggling box with the big red bow?
