![]() David Bragdon (cow costume not included) |
[December 28th, 2005] PLUSH LIFE OPB's Christmas Eve broadcast of its Live Wire radio program proved, once again, what an animal Metro Prez David Bragdon is. Recounting his moo-ving memories of dressing up as "the Cow " at Zoolights , the Oregon Zoo 's annual festival of outdoor lights, the former cab driver and sometime percussionist for Pink Martini said he wasn't bothered by the itchy costume. It was the parents who let their kids hug someone just because he's dressed up like a cow who freaked him out. "I could be a politician in here!" Bragdon exclaimed. "For all you know, I could be Dick Cheney!"
FEELING UP NEMO For all y'all breeders out there: Hold out till February, when Flying Pie Pizzeria 's Ty DuPuis and partners reopen the 57-year-old Academy Theater (7818 SE Stark St.) as a theater pub. Why you should care? Two words: onsite babysitting . It'll be the only place in town you can ditch the young 'uns (for about $3 a head) and indulge in an evening of corndogs, beer and serious tonsil hockey.

FROM BULGARIA, WITH LOVE Local filmmaker Nick Lyon made his debut feature film, I Love You Baby, in Europe before returning home to P-town last year to make the well-received The City They Fell. And while that tale of ill-fated, strung-out lovers has yet to find a distributor, Scoop has just heard that Lyon is headed back to Europe—Bulgaria, specifically—to make Grendel, based on Beowulf. Lyon won't be the only P-town homeboy working on the film; producer Phillip Roth started making movies in Portland back in the 1980s. The son of local judge Phillip Roth Sr., Roth fils boasts credits including the (thankfully) rarely seen film Fatal Revenge, which featured WW film critic David Walker as a gay, Hispanic drug dealer brutally gunned down in Cascade Locks.
