There Will Be Blood
BY AARON MESH | 503-243-2122

[January 23rd, 2008]

The first 20 minutes of There Will Be Blood contain barely a word, while the movie’s final scenes—and Daniel Day-Lewis’ cry of “I drink your milkshake!”—have left audiences speechless. But that hasn’t stopped plenty of critics from making a din about the movie. That includes me: I named it the best film of 2007, and claimed that director Paul Thomas Anderson “aims for storytelling effects not seen at the cinema since the height of 1970s arthouse epics.”

Now WW wants to add your voice to the conversation. This Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Kells, I’ll be hosting the second installment of “Everybody’s a Critic,” a movie conversation held over a few beers. The last one—dedicated to I’m Not There —was a resounding success, and I’m hoping for just as intelligent and engaged a crowd to show up this time to discuss Blood ’s themes of oil, corruption and the American way. To sweeten the talk, WW is offering the first round of drinks on the house. But be warned: If you order a milkshake, I will drink it.
