Ever heard of the diamond sparkle spa set from Body Systems? You know, the $78 lotion and body scrub that supposedly contains 13.25 carats of real ground diamonds? Probably not, because it’s fucking ridiculous. Ladies, it’s high time to get back to basics. We took professional makeup artist Meghan Stoll (celestineagency.com) to Rite Aid and posed the following question: “What’s so wrong with a little L’Oreal, Olay and Wet ’n’ Wild?” Her answer? Nothing. And then she generously broke down a chic-on-the-cheap beauty routine using drugstore miscellany. Thanks, Meghan!

Wash your face already: Meghan likes Garnier Nutritioniste Nutri-Pure towelettes ($6.49). “It takes off all of your makeup—plus it leaves some moisture.”

Chapped lips are unattractive: “Lips need to be moisturized before you do anything.” All you need? Blistex DCT lip balm ($2.49).
Replenish your fluids: Oil of Olay is best for moisturizing [Age-Defying Daily Renewal Cream, $10.99]. Use it for the beta hydroxy,” she says. It tightens the skin. And we all want to be tight.

Cover up: “Take a dime-sized portion of CoverGirl Clean Makeup ($6.59) and use your fingers to blend. That way, it looks like part of your skin.” Follow up with liquid powder, like CoverGirl Ultimate Finish ($8.45). “You’re going for natural. Not cake.” Use a brush to apply.

Bring it back to the eyes: “Don’t splurge on eyeliner. N.Y.C. New York Color eyeliners [$1.99] work great. Super-saturated greens, blues and purples are super-hot right now.” Then use a Revlon Gold eyelash curler for $4.65. “Don’t get heated eyelash curlers…what a total rip-off.”

“Definitely blush it up”: Peach colors always look good—try Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush in Peach Satin ($7.40).
