The second annual Bridgetown Comedy Festival is back, flush with the success of last’s year inaugural blowout. From Thursday to Sunday, the festival is packing top-tier comedians into eight different Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard stages. There are so many shows, you can’t possibly hit them all. So WW chose a few favorites and designed a quiz to help you pick which comedians you shouldn’t miss.

GO: Bridgetown Comedy Festival takes place Thursday-Sunday, April 23-26. See bridgetowncomedyfestival.com for the full schedule and list of venues. $50 for a four-day pass. See below for individual show prices.

Which Comic Are You?

In your free time, you like to…

  1. Make home movies (hint) with your two friends and play in a death-metal parody band.
  2. Head into town from the summer camp you work at to rob elderly women, inject heroin intravenously and eat lots of french fries.
  3. Have some chicken and maybe some sex.
  4. Tour the country with three weird guys in a bus, stopping occasionally at Cracker Barrel restaurants and comedy clubs.

You would describe yourself as…

  1. Hastily animated, flickering and voiced by that guy who played the son on Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist.
  2. The no-nonsense sarcastic sidekick to Winona Ryder in a Gen-X coming-of-age story.
  3. Whammy!
  4. A wide-eyed, nervous type who plumbs the comedic depths of loneliness, depression and suicide in an adorable Minnesota accent.

You’re embarrassed by how much you like…

  1. Being told you sound like that dude from those cartoons that are on late at night.
  2. Staring into Kiefer Sutherland’s eyes as he shouts about taking care of terrorists vigilante-style.
  3. San Diego local news anchor Ron Burgundy.
  4. Egg salad and Woody Allen.

If you answered A to two or more questions, check out Brendon Small, creator of Adult Swim cartoons Home Movies and Metalocalypse.

THURSDAY APRIL 23

[MUSIC] BURAKA SOM SISTEMA
Anyone who claims world music can’t be fun hasn’t listened to Buraka Som Sistema, the Portuguese electronic outfit that mixes Western hip-hop with calypso rhythms. Rotture, 315 SE 3rd Ave., 234-5683. 9 pm. $8 advance, $10 day of show. 21+.

[SCREEN] HICKSPLOITATION DOUBLE FEATURE
A twin bill of sleaze from the programmers at Austin’s legendary Alamo Drafthouse: Gator Bait (1974), with a former Playmate gunning down inbred rednecks, and Psycho from Texas (1981), starring a fried-chicken-gnawing serial killer. The South will rise again! Clinton Street Theater, 2522 SE Clinton Street, 238-8899. 8:30 pm. $8.

FRIDAY APRIL 24

[MUSIC] BLACK LIPS
Atlanta’s reckless garage rockers return to town with a more sedate and, dare we say, country new album. Notorious for urinating and vomiting onstage, tonight we can at least hope for a band make-out sesh, right? Berbati’s Pan, 231 SW Ankeny St., 248-4579. 9 pm. $13 advance, $15 day of show. 21+.

[SCREEN] ANVIL! THE STORY OF ANVIL
Canada’s forgotten heavy-metal drummers make a comeback. And another comeback. And a comeback where only 174 people show up in the arena. See review. Cinema 21, 616 NW 21st Ave., 223-4515. Friday-Thursday, April 24-30. $5-$8.

[STAGE] THE WILD WORLD OF BATWOMAN
Ryan Cloutier’s wild-eyed LastRites Productions presents its third stage adaptation of a classic B movie. In this one, Batwoman and the Batgirls hunt down a villain named Rat Fink. Theater! Theatre!, 3430 SE Belmont St., 547-4019. 10:30 pm Thursdays-Saturdays. Closes May 9. $10.

[REVELRY] THE WONDERLAND CIRCUS
Noah Mickens and crew present an Alice in Wonderland-themed tea party/musical revue/circus extravaganza with a live score by Trashcan Joe and the usual circus suspects as Lewis Carroll characters. Bossanova, 722 E Burnside St., wanderlustcircus.com. 7 pm Fridays-Saturdays, April 24-May 2. $15 balcony, $27 seats, $65 with tea.

TUESDAY APRIL 28

[MUSIC] VIVIAN GIRLS
Now that the appeal of the ill-named “shitgaze” genre is starting to wear off, we can see why Vivian Girls got it right in the first place. Mixing drony reverb and girl-group harmonies is always a good thing in our book. Holocene, 1001 SE Morrison St., 239-7639. 8:30 pm. $10. 21+.
