Love Your Farmer Day

If you're looking for a last-minute sweetheart for Valentine's Day, there may be hope for you yet. Head on over to Southeast Portland's year-round farmers market for a long afternoon of chocolate and square dancing—sure to draw out some hungry prospects. David Beer of local Wingnut Confections will be serving up tastes of his aphrodisiac goji berry and Damiana vodka truffle, and the Chocolate Rabbit will dish out bits of its bee-pollen-dusted Bee Mine truffle, featuring a honey-walnut center. High on chocolate, proceed up to the wooden dance floor for twirling, calling and old-school live music. People's Food Co-op, 3029 SE 21st Ave., 232-9051. Market 2-7 pm, dancing 7-9 pm. Free. Map

Valentine's Beer and Chocolate Tasting

Still sullen without a Valentine? Numb the pain with an evening conveniently disguised as a gourmet endeavor. Local beer expert Fred Eckhardt will match 10 microbrew beers (from Rogue and others) with their chocolate counterparts, just in case you haven't had your fill of the seductive, dark temptress yet this week. Rogue Ales Public House, 1339 NW Flanders St., 222-5910. 5 pm. $35 in advance, $40 at the door. Map

Roses and Rosé

One of Portland's classiest dining rooms will wait until Friday to turn on the Valentine charm, in the form of a luxurious four-course meal designed to complement the virtues of everyone's favorite pink drink—rosé. The crab bisque, scallop with butter-poached oyster, and duck breast with foie gras sound rich indeed, but the lightly acidic, dry wines they'll be paired with should help balance your indulgence. Heathman Hotel, 1001 SW Broadway., 790-7752. 7 pm. $85 per person. Call for reservations Map
