Dine Out for Buckman

Here's a politically correct way to make your dining dollar go even further: Three eastside Portland restaurants will be donating a portion of their daily take to the Buckman Historic Association to help get the neighborhood designated as an historic district—improving livability, affordability, and that family-friendly feeling for its residents. Old Wives' Tales, 1300 E Burnside St., 238-0470. All day Friday, Feb. 22. Il Piatto, 2348 SE Ankeny St., 236-4990. Dinner only Monday, Feb. 25. East Burn, 1800 E Burnside St., 236-2876. Dinner only Thursday, Feb. 28. , , . Map

Dueling Sommelier Dinner

Put your weapons away—this fight will determine who's at the top of the fermented-grape heap. Celebrity sommeliers from Portland and Seattle will put up their dukes while pairing wines with four courses of Philippe Boulot's traditional French cuisine. With each course, you'll try wines from the Heathman's own Jeff Groh, Cyril Frechier of Campagne, Tysan Pierce of the Herbfarm, and 2006 Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Best Young Sommelier in America Jake Kosseff. That's 16 wines total, at $3.75 a taste if you figure $40 for dinner. Not bad. Heathman Hotel, 1001 SW Broadway., 241-4100. 6:30 pm. $100. Map
