WW PickKing Corn, free screening

While those yellow ears of plump, sweet goodness seem innocent enough, they play a large part in our nation's changing farming economy—and ever-expanding waistlines. After a free screening, filmmaker Curt Ellis will be on hand to discuss the issues he explores in the film with a local panel of food-systems advocates including a community supported agriculture farmer, the president of New Seasons Market and the food resource manager of the Oregon Food Bank. If you're craving dinner with that movie, Proper Eats, a vegan joint just across the street, will offer a discount to film-goers. St. Johns Twin Cinema, 8704 N Lombard St., 285-6780. 7-9 pm. Free. Children's Teddy and Friends Tea Party

Take a break during spring break and drop off your child and their favorite teddy bear for this frilly tea party, held in an elegant historic mansion. They'll enjoy Nutella-and-banana sandwiches (crusts cut off, of course), strawberries with cream, and dainty desserts, and then work on crafts and enjoy teddy-centric storytelling. In the meantime, you can stroll the lovely grounds of the 68-acre estate and enjoy a moment of peace. Jenkins Estate, 8005 SW Grabhorn Road, Aloha., 629-6355. 11:30 am-1:30 pm. 6- to 10-year-old children. $20. Map

Breakfast with Blazer Channing Frye

He's 6-foot-1 and weighs 258 pounds, he eats his chicken strips with ranch dressing, and he consumes no fewer than 5,000 calories a day. That's right, Channing Frye can put back some food. Share a hearty breakfast of eggs, bacon and home fries with the b-baller and contribute to a good cause—the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The Oregon chapter alone helps more than 7,000 individuals with the disease. Event held at the Oregon Zoo's Cascade Crest Banquet Center. Oregon Zoo, 4001 SW Canyon Road., 220-2789. 7:30-9 am. $45 and up. Purchase tickets at 223-9511 or defeatms.com. Map
