Case/Pints for the Cure
The month of October brings a fundraiser for a cause worth getting drunk for. BridgePort Brewing Company donates a buck outta each case of its suds you buy this month at a number of local retailers to Komen Race for the Cure of Oregon, a local nonprofit that raises funds to put a hurt on breast cancer. Plus, the brewery will also donate a percentage every time you buy a pint of Blue Heron, Ebenezer Ale, Porter or BridgePort IPA at the company’s Pearl District HQ as well as local pubs like the Cheerful Tortoise and Angelo’s. Cheers.
BridgePort Brewpub & Bakery, 1313 NW Marshall St., 241-7179. Fundraiser takes place through the month of October. Regular case and pint prices. Map

Vegan Italian for Josh Harper Benefit
Vegan junk-food outfit Food Fight hosts a three-course feast at Cellar Door Coffee to benefit Josh Harper. He is serving a three-year prison sentence in Sheridan as part of the SHAC 7 animal-rights activists controversially imprisoned after the government found them guilty of participating in activities designed to close down animal-testing labs. Appropriately enough, the benefit features vegan Italian eats from Aaron Adams, who is opening an all-vegan Italian joint called Portobello in PDX in the coming months. Reserve spots and pay in advance at Food Fight, 1217 SE Stark St., 233-3910.
Cellar Door Coffee, 2001 SE 11th Ave., 234-7155. 7 pm. $25-$50 suggested donation. Map

Pathways to a Culinary Career
Love to sauté, chop and broil but don’t know how to make money off your sweet kitchen skills? Got a lotta opinions on local restaurants and don’t know how to share ‘em? The Portland Culinary Alliance is here to help. The group is hosting a day-long seminar (and three-course lunch, bonus!) focused on “pathways to culinary careers.” Speakers include cookbook author Ivy Manning, chefs Cathy Whims and Vitaly Paley, cart masters Andrea Spella (Spella Cafe) and FlavourSpot’s David Stokamer as well as a grip of other food-centric PR peeps, writers, stylists and entrepreneurs. Even if it doesn’t cement your future path it’s basically a year’s worth of networking in five hours.
Nostrana, 1401 SE Morrison St., 234-2427. 9 am-2 pm. $75 ($60 PCA members; $50 culinary students). Register at pdxca.org/upcoming-events.
