This erudite yet welcoming cafe and bar offers periodicals from all over the world, as well as monthly art shows and esoteric movie nights. Bottled beers ($3.50-$7) range from Stella Artois to fruity Lambics, and the Press Club offers wines by the glass ($5-$11) as well as the bottle, most in the $30 range. Mountain Writers Series


Three writers—two Toms and one Lisa—will read at this month’s installment of the Mountain Writers series. Lisa Steinman has taught English at Reed College since 1976 and will read from the many poetry books she has authored over the years. Steinman won the Oregon Book Award in 1993 for her poetry collection All That Comes to Light. Tom Mattox, an occasional writer and poet, will also read. Mattox is the community outreach director for grocery co-op Food Front and creator of the Portland Project website. Tommy Gaffney will host the reading. Gaffney’s work has appeared in Broken Word, Equinox, Zygote in My Coffee and Refined Savage. Press Club, 2621 SE Clinton St., 233-5656. 7 pm. Free. All ages.
