WW PickTim Etchells

Tim Etchells is the renowned artistic director of U.K.-based Forced Entertainment, a critically acclaimed avant-garde theater company that has performed throughout the world. His latest, Sight is the sense that dying people tend to lose first, is an abstract stream-of-consciousness monologue getting a two-night run at this year’s Time-Based Art Festival. It’s littered with such chestnuts as “Socks are gloves for the feet. Snow is cold. Water is the same as ice. In America things are bigger. America is a country. Korea is also a country. Some men have sex appeal.” Whoa, Tim, that’s like, so totally deep, but I think maybe it's time put down that bong before you hurt yourself. MATT GRAHAM. Portland Center for the Performing Arts, 1111 SW Broadway., 248-4335. 8:30 pm Thursday-Friday, Sept. 11-12. $15-$20. Playing at the PCPA's Winningstad Theater.

WW PickMike Daisey

Mike Daisey is a robust one-man spoken-word act known for his high-energy, quasi-extemporaneous stage shows that manage to be funny while investigating the nooks and crannies of our weird national history. In If You See Something Say Something, playing at the Time-Based Art Festival, his topic of choice is everybody’s favorite shady government agency, the Department of Homeland Security. What does it mean to be secure? Who are our friends? Who are our enemies? Daisey has been touted as one of the finest stage performers currently working. He’s here for four nights, so judge for yourself. MATT GRAHAM. Portland Center for the Performing Arts, 1111 SW Broadway., 248-4335. 6:30 pm. $15-$20. All ages. Playing at the PCPA's Winningstad Theatre
