Art Spiegelman

Maus was Art Speigelman’s 1986 memoir about his father’s experiences in Nazi Poland and its effects on his family. It won a special Pulitzer Prize and did much to improve the prestige of the graphic novel in the eyes of the general reading public. Breakdowns reissues some of Speigelman’s strips from the late 1970s and doubles as a meditation on what the medium of comics has meant to his life. MATT GRAHAM. Bagdad Theater & Pub, 3702 SE Hawthorne Blvd., 236-9234. 7 pm. $5. All ages.
