Neighborhood: Woodstock

Walk your dog past lolling trustafarians at Reed College’s idyllic campus (3203 SE Woodstock Blvd. (read more), 771-1112, reed.edu) and head up the hill along Southeast Woodstock Boulevard, the epicenter of this Southeast ’hood, just far flung enough to have affordable rents and few condos—so far. For a cheap, protein-rich lunch, visit Otto’s Sausage Kitchen & Meat Market (4138 SE Woodstock Blvd., 771-6714), where locals line up out the door for homemade links. A few blocks east, with graffiti-style signage and a makeshift voodoo shrine, the Delta Cafe (4607 SE Woodstock Blvd., 771-3101) is more reminiscent of a New Orleans tattoo parlor than a soul food joint, but it slings corn fritters and blackened catfish that are 100 percent N’awlins. For a low-key drink among diehard barflies, the Lutz Tavern (4639 SE Woodstock Blvd., 774-0353) is the spot. And on game days, Mickey Finn’s Brew Pub (4336 SE Woodstock Blvd., 788-1587) lights up its numerous small screens with all the sports you can take. Woodstock Wine & Deli (4030 SE Woodstock Blvd., 777-2208), meanwhile, matches a classier dining experience with a fab selection of wine. —Amanda Waldroupe.
