C-130s like King-56 are powered by four 4,190-horsepower Allison turbo-prop engines. Note the two small mushroom-shaped "bleed valves" on the top of the front section of the engine. One theory is that when the King-56 synchrophaser malfunctioned, the bleed valves opened, depriving the engines of compressed air and causing air-starved flame-out---not fuel-starved. |
