This week: Not-the-Easter Bunny

Vibrating Bunnies
Plastic rabbit ears and female genitalia have an undeniable synergy. Stop in a local sex shop (try Spartacus or It's My Pleasure) and choose from the Rascally Rabbit, Golden Rabbit, Rabbit Pearl and plenty of other sex toys that cap their shafts with twitchy ears. Or work up to this purchase with a bunny key chain from Finnegan's Toys (922 SW Yamhill St., 221-0306); it's a cross between a pulsing pager and a circa-'70s rabbit's foot. Cute as it is, you may want to keep this furry friend in your purse instead of your pocket--unexpected movement in your trousers could cause some confusion.

Rabbits in Oil
Robert Bissell's Animals Are Good for Thinking features paintings of bunnies in surreal, larger-than-life landscapes. The show opens May 7 at Portland State University's Littman Gallery (Smith Memorial Center, 1825 SW Broadway).

Bunnygrunt
This So-Cal pop trio's new album, Jen-Fi, plays rollicking, fun songs that make a peppy soundtrack for springtime. Though none of the lyrics mention rabbits, there are cheeky animal-related tunes like "We Suspect He Was Trying to Spell Monkey" and "Good Tiger, Bad Tiger." All of the tracks feature upbeat melodies and joyful vocals. Suitable for hopping.

Garlic
Chomping down on those delicate bones can make eating the legs and breasts of our furry long-eared friends a little uncomfortable. But we don't want to give up that richer-than-chicken taste. Fred Carlo's garlic rabbit sausage (available at City Market) has great rabbit taste without the bad memories.

Ostrich Hat
It doesn't have anything to do with a rabbit, but what would Easter be without a bonnet? Parvenu Hat and Cap (1033 SW Morrison St.) has the finest selection. The best choice for alternative Easter celebrations is the silky black, broad-brimmed hat festooned with buckets of feathers. Now if only we knew about a parade....

Plump, angora fluffballs take plenty of forms that have nothing to do with Christ, colored eggs or baskets stuffed with jelly beans.

Show of the Month

Mudhoney makes a triumphant return to LaLuna on Saturday, April 11. Portland singer-songwriter Roy Tinsel hosts Willamette Week's pre-Mudhoney party that evening, from 6:30-8:30 pm at La Cruda (2500 SE Clinton St.). Tinsel will give away prizes and pairs of Mudhoney tickets throughout his set--which will include a few Mudhoney covers to get you rearing for the show.

NXNW

NXNW 4 will take place Aug. 20-22 at the Hilton Hotel. The band selection process has changed. This year, performers will be considered solely on the basic of their applications. For information on receiving an application see page 38. For other information, or to get on the mailing list, call us at 243-2122, ext. 380.
