Holocene’s cramped bar can make drinking a challenge on busy show nights. But when you do get your High Life, dancing to whatever electro-psych-krunkpop act that’s playing in the crowded second room just seems so much sweeter. HAPPY HOUR, PHOTO BOOTH, LIVE MUSIC, SMOKING ROOM, MEAT MARKET.

Little Dragon, Special Guests
[SPITTIN' HOT FIRE] Little Dragon announced its arrival in 2006 with the single “Twice,” a spare, melancholy ballad featuring nothing more than piano and a female voice. It was a great, haunting introduction, but it was also a trick. When its self-titled debut dropped a year later, the band revealed its true identity: a fantastically eclectic group of Swedes playing at the intersection of electro-soul, trip-hop and indie pop. That first album highlighted its main components: funky bass lines, jazzy synths, crisp drums and, especially, the alluring vocals of singer Yukimi Nagano. Machine Dreams, its terrific 2009 follow-up, applies those aspects to a retro-futurist dance record, one that doesn't revive ’80s New Wave as much as give it a new-millennial makeover. MATTHEW SINGER. Holocene 8:30 pm. $12 advance, $13 day of show. 21+.
