Neighborhood:
Woodstock and Eastmoreland Though the neighborhood was named 80 years before the Aquarian Exposition, Woodstock overlooks a never-ending festival of immoderate behavior, both academic and, er, recreational, at Reed College (3203 SE Woodstock Blvd. (read more), 771-1112, reed.edu), just down the hill from the hoods eastern border. Woodstock itself is a quiet community of still-affordable homes and the sort of useful businesses that vanish from most neighborhoods as soon as the first doggie boutique moves in: tire shops, hardware stores, a Bi-Mart and Ottos Sausage Kitchen (4138 SE Woodstock Blvd., 771-6714, ottossausagekitchen.com), a gleeful testament to the joys of ground-meat-filled intestines. Bars range from the student-packed Creole voodoo dive Delta Cafe (4607 SE Woodstock Blvd., 771-3101) to the decidedly less hip Country Bills Restaurant (4415 SE Woodstock Blvd., 774-4198, countrybills.com), which is about what you would expect it to be. Houses in the area express a bit more personality than those in better-groomed hoods. Check out the Woodstock Mystery Hole (barronmind.com) or the over-decorated home at Southeast Harold Street and 58th Avenue for proof. Ben Waterhouse
