Three-month-old Moonshine Kitchen & Lounge (1020 NW 17th Ave., 943-2780)
does what it does well. Its location is unmarked, reminiscent of the
days of Prohibition, save for four picnic tables outside its storefront
on Northwest 17th Avenue (between Lovejoy and Marshall Streets). The
modest interior is accented with cool blues and a wood ceiling. The
walls are lined with moonshine bottles, candles in Mason jars glow at
each table. The drink list is short and sweet, with cute cocktails and a
finely tuned selection of brews on tap (including a $2 pint of Hamm’s
for you cheapskates). Burgers, chili and fries are the offerings here;
all are delicious and affordable. All is casual and relaxed. Order at
the bar, sip a brew and reminiscence about days gone by. You’ll want to
come back.
