Brew Views: Miracle Mile

Bombing out.

After a chance meeting, Harry (Anthony Edwards) and Julie (Mare Winningham) fall in love, and the miracle in 1988’s Miracle Mile seems realized. But when Harry blows a date and learns of impending nuclear apocalypse, he has just one hour to save his skin—and Julie’s. As the two race through L.A., their terror and confusion are contagious, and the film’s dingy realism is on prime display as the streets fill with fighting, looting and fucking. For those uneasy about the Mayan apocalypse, Miracle Mile offers no relief. But for tips on what to pack, or for those who just want to kick back and let it burn, it’s your best bet before grabbing the duct tape.
