[ORCHESTRAL DAYDREAMS] When it comes to singers, there are the voices you hear, and then there are the voices you feel. Montreal-based singer-songwriter Patrick Watson possesses the kind that permeates inward with its soothing falsettos and secretive gentleness. Backed by a solid group of musicians, Watson arranges songs of subtle playfulness and whimsy that fall along similarly quirky and experimental lines as acts like Andrew Bird. The band really comes to life in concert, accentuating each compositional decision with skill and cohesiveness. Watson traverses the piano with ease, as guitars, violin, percussion and backup vocals fill out the rest of the soundscape. In an effort to capture its entrancing onstage performance, the group recorded the majority of its 2012 album, Adventures in Your Own Backyard, live in Watson’s home. And the results are worth a listen.
