[MELODIC PUNK] Difficult as it is to stop thinking about what a “French Exit” might be if it were a particularly grueling sex maneuver, let us give a minute to the band claiming the evocative name. Having vacuumed up a decade’s worth of heavy melody—Weezer’s early goodness, Lifetime’s best moments, Dillinger Four’s sodden antics—Los Angeles’ French Exit spits it all back out in a just-rough-enough chunk of beard- and beer-friendly punk rock. The quartet’s marriage of sweetheart coos and gruff pique hints at an alternate reality in which mall-punk is actually really good.
