[PDX HOMECOMING] “Common Sentiments,” the recently released first single off Typoon’s upcoming 2013 LP, White Lighter, employs the band’s usual tricks of epic crescendos, well-timed refrains, rousing backup vocals and compositional twists, but it also brings validation to the longtime Typhoon follower. The 10-plus-member group continues growing tighter and more confident, knowing when to chime in with full force and when to allow frontman Kyle Morton’s increasingly impassioned voice to speak for itself. Tonight’s show welcomes the band and its fellow Portland-based tourmates Laura Gibson and Lost Lander home from a monthlong trip through the West. It’s been a busy year for all three: Typhoon recorded the aforementioned album at Pendarvis Farm; Laura Gibson released her third LP, La Grande; and Lost Lander released its debut album, DRRT. It goes without saying this evening will be an excellent showcase of local talent.

Comedy Central has proclaimed him the funniest man on Twitter (“Doughnuts are gay bagels”), but Delaney is pretty funny live, too, with plenty of pathos alongside the outlandish bits.
