[HIGH ON LIFE] Most local ’bangers don’t remember the days when High on Fire guitarist-vocalist Matt Pike was sober. But the first time the band played Portland back at the old Satyricon, Pike didn’t drink. Since then, success has gone to his head—and his liver, resulting in a major tour cancellation this summer and a trip to rehab. Now, Pike is straight again, focused on the music and his new record, De Vermis Mysteriis, a concept album about a time-traveling twin of Jesus. When listening to any of Pike’s music, or seeing him live, sobriety is not encouraged.
