White Murder, Youthbitch, Piss Test, Lunch

RUTH BROWN
9 pm., Saturday February 09 | Call venue for ticket information.
East End
203 SE Grand Ave.

[PARTY PUNK] A super-tight back end plus two women with talented mouths. Sounds like this video I watched the other day on Spankwire, but also like White Murder, an L.A. five-piece punk outfit with two female vocalists and a rhythm section that drives like Brad Keselowski (he’s a very good NASCAR driver; don’t worry, I had to look it up, too). There’s occasional hints of dirty surf guitar sandwiched between the two, but the band is pretty firmly rooted in unfussy ’70s punk and ’90s indie rock (of the Sleater-Kinney variety). Originally a side project for a number of other Golden State bands, White Murder has released a handful of 7-inches over the past few years, all following a solid and very likable formula: a meaty bassline (courtesy of This Moment in Black History’s Mike D’Amico), drums you can dance to and two ladies wailing lots of swears over the top of it.
