Christopher Owens
9 pm., Saturday March 30 | $16.
[SOFT ROCK] Christopher Owens is more backstory than artist. That’s not to diminish his considerable talents as an artist: With Girls, the San Francisco-based songwriter penned two albums that took classic pop melodies and structures and set them just slightly askew, before disbanding the group and going solo. But it’s impossible to talk about Owens without mentioning his past, which includes a childhood spent in a religious cult and time working as an assistant to a Texas oil tycoon. Now, that past includes being in a successful band. But Owens has never had a problem taking a look at those experiences in the rearview and analyzing them in the present. And for his first foray all by his lonesome, Lysandre, the singer discusses his conflicted relationship with indie fame, as well as recent relationships, over feather-delicate arrangements featuring flutes and nylon-string guitars.
