[STILL ALT-ROCKIN’] Frankly, the thought of Dinosaur Jr.’s 2005 resurrection terrified me. Would yet another great alt-rock band shoot itself in the foot by trying to stay relevant? The trio has done quite well, in fact, evidenced by the best record of the band’s revival era, last year’s I Bet on Sky. J. Mascis’ crackly, whitewashed voice persists over dexterous guitar work and the same punishing drum signatures we headbanged to when the band was tooling around on a golf cart in the “Feel the Pain” video. Soundgarden charges close to $100 for a seat and Pearl Jam is busy strumming ukeleles, so get your ’90s fix here, which is the best way possible.
