Sculpture Garden

RICHARD SPEER
Friday April 12
Butters
520 NW Davis St., 2nd floor

In this all-sculpture show, the pieces that stand out most are not by an artist we associate with sculpture, but with painting. Veteran painter David Geiser’s suite of seven pieces, all titled Helmet, climb the wall in an invigoratingly asymmetrical installation. Fashioned out of parchment paper, acrylic paint and other media, they do indeed resemble helmets, but also mushroom caps and oversize baseballs. Geiser coats them in his signature color, a chalky, Yves Klein-like blue, to gorgeous effect. Through April 27.
