Ron van Dongen

RICHARD SPEER
Friday April 12
Froelick Gallery
714 NW Davis St.

Ron van Dongen breathes fresh life into the musty genre of the floral still life with an untitled trio of photographs. Taken in Holland, the prints show close-up details of tulips, dramatically selective in their focus and saturated to the point of near-vulgar sensuality. Another piece—Helleborus x hybridus “Odile”—is a study in sinister black petals, punctuated by vanilla-colored stamens. Through April 27.
