BRETT CAMPBELL
7:30 pm Tuesday, April 23., Tuesday April 23 | Donation.
The Old Church
1422 SW 11th Ave.

Some of the city’s top contemporary classical players celebrate the 75th birthday of American modernist composer Frederic Rzewski, who won fame with politically charged 1970s masterpieces like Coming Together and The People United Will Never Be Defeated variations. This concert features his later Pocket Symphony written in 2000 for the fabulous Eighth Blackbird ensemble, 1990’s Aerial Tarts, a 1985 work for narrator and percussion and Rzewski’s own tribute to elder composer Elliott Carter. The golden oldie is one of Bela Bartok’s most beautiful works, written the year Rzewski was born, the Eastern European dance-inspired 1938 clarinet trio Contrasts.
