[HIP-HOP] Ian Bavitz doesn't sound like it'd be the name of a revered cult rapper, but then, Bazooka Tooth and Skelethon don't sound like typical hip-hop album titles, either. Come to think of it, Aesop Rock—the nom de rap of the Long Island-born Bavitz—is kind of a strange name for an MC to adopt, too. At least, it was back in the late '90s, when he first started busting complex, heady rhymes as a member of the vaunted Def Jux stable. Along with his labelmates, Aesop Rock has, over the last decade, helped make the hip-hop underground a much more confounding place, and for that he's earned a devoted following. This show is a make-up gig from earlier in the year, when Bavitz broke a rib and was forced to cancel a number of shows. Expect the release of four months' worth of pent-up energy here.
