[WEST COAST NOISE] The members of noise maestros Sissy Spacek are currently split between Portland and Los Angeles, so shows like this are a special occurrence indeed. The group plays with typical instrumentation—guitars, drums, bass, vocalist—but nothing it performs, however, feels typical. Instead, the quintet unleashes cluster bombs of sound, with beats and melodies eschewed in favor of punkish energy, and the raw power and joy of playing as hard and fast as possible. Opening the show is Joe Preston’s one-man doom-metal experience, Thrones, and Smegma side-project Tenses.
