Humungus, Gladius, Zirakzigil

NATHAN CARSON
7:30 pm., Friday June 21 | $5.
The Know
2026 NE Alberta St.

NOTE: As pointed out by the Portland Mercury, Music Editor Matthew Singer assigned the listing for this show to Nathan Carson, who was originally listed as DJing the bill under the name "DJ Nate C," without realizing they are one in the same. Carson, however, was never actually booked to perform on the bill, as he will be spinning records at Gold Dust Meridian that evening, and was mistakenly added to the lineup by the Know. We regret any confusion this may have caused. If you still don't trust our recommendation, the Mercury also made this show a staff pick, so maybe that will convince you it's legitimately worth your time.

[FANTASY METAL] This is only the second show for Zirakzigil, and there’s already national buzz building around the local trio, thanks to a new cassette release on Anthem Records. Battle of the Peak cleverly features a sleek design mimicking old Super Nintendo game boxes. Within the clamshell are three 15-minute progressive metal treasures concerned with Gandalf the Wizard. The three dudes in Zirakzigil are cousins, and reportedly recorded these songs in one take in their garage. The strong Dungeons and Dragons aesthetic, combined with brave songwriting and the warts-and-all approach of Pentagram’s early recordings blends into one fabulous artifact, which sounds like Karp covering Blind Guardian. Recommended.
