[CHRISTIAN-ISH ROCK] Jars of Clay, one of the leading lights of the Christian rock scene for the past two decades, caught some flak last year when frontman Dan Haseltine wrote a blog post announcing a tentative change in direction with the band’s forthcoming release, Inland. That is to say, it wasn’t necessarily a Christian record. “[It] has not been an easy fit into an artistic community that has such a massive agenda and only a single idea of how that agenda gets accomplished. I don’t fit there,” he wrote. Well, everybody fits in around these parts, fallen angels or not. And while they may be too mainstream for true Christians, and too Christian for the mainstream, they’ve got a solid folky, alternative-rock sound that’s worth paying attention to.
