[CHILLWAVE] I doubt covering 2 Unlimited’s 1993 hit “No Limits” on a church organ at age 5 is how most U.K. producers and DJs began their careers, but Darren Williams, aka Star Slinger, isn’t your standard DJ. Sure, he may often find himself alone, hunched over his laptop crafting spacey, R&B-seared originals to the tune of J Dilla, but he’s also just as likely to be found remixing Deerhunter as he is English indie-pop sensations like London Grammer. The 27-year-old’s music is loaded with post-disco chic and groovy electro-funk samples, while layering fragmented house and shimmering psychedelia somewhere in between.
