[AMBIENT-NET] I’ve always imagined that connecting to a device via the oddly named Ethernet would involve taking a 100-foot cable as deep as it will go into a foggy swamp on a night of some astrological significance, reciting a mantra to the server and plunging the end resolutely into a glowing, mushroom-covered stump. Portland ambient artist Tim Gray has finally made the perfect soundtrack to my fantasy. The meditative, gaseous digital synth sounds on his latest album, Virtual Reality, put the “ether” back in “Ethernet.”
