Rick Bartow: Bird Wings

RICHARD SPEER
Saturday November 30
Froelick Gallery
714 NW Davis St.

Part human, part beast, part spirit: That’s what Rick Bartow’s stylized figures typically consist of. The artist, a member of the Wiyot tribe of Northern California, integrates his native heritage into his work, infusing figure studies with mystical overtones. There is an undercurrent of polymorphous perversity to his paintings and drawings, bespeaking a fluidity of identity. We can all shape-shift, his works seem to proclaim; we are limited only by the parameters of our imaginations. Through Dec. 13.
