[CULT CONUNDRUM] Portland might like Floater more than Kanye West likes himself. The hard-rock trio, originally from Eugene, has sold out multiple headlining slots at the Crystal Ballroom over the years. Eight albums and two decades into its career, the group continues to unleash the same face-melting solos and behemoth pop hooks that have seldom found airplay outside the city limits. Wake, the band’s most recent LP, encapsulates Floater’s ever-increasing pop drive, heavy-metal riffage and psychedelic tinges.
