Back in January, the Academy Award-winning animator Will Vinton, the Claymation wizard behind the California Raisins, the talking M&Ms and the Domino’s Pizza Noid, launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $85,000 for a bold new project. It was a musical, a battle-of-the-sexes riff on The Frog Prince, with all the special effects and elaborate costumes you would expect from Vinton, which the lifelong Oregonian said he hoped to take to Broadway. The Kickstarter campaign fell far short of its goal—backers pledged just under $17,000—but Vinton and songwriter David Pomeranz are plowing ahead with the project. They’ve scheduled a two-night run of the in-progress production, where audience members will have the opportunity to get a first glimpse of the new show—and perhaps assess its chances of actually making it to New York City.
