Ben Fuller

7 pm. , Wednesday March 19 | Free. Ben Fuller plays Al's Den nightly through March 22.

[PASSIVE-AGGRESSIVE HEARTLAND ROCK] If Ben Fuller’s take on tumbleweed rock channeled the ’70s any deeper, he would grow a handlebar moustache and drive a Chevy Camaro. Even as a self-proclaimed student in the school of Tom Petty, Fuller still lets his vocals—which sound aged in a whiskey barrel—ride shotgun in a joyride of rapping percussion and animated acoustics. His current works are not the best tunes to pull the sunroof back for, however. The lyrics from his latest album, 2013’s Little Siberia, were forged in a mound of snow, as Fuller secluded himself in a winter cabin with his pregnant wife and daughter. Not surprisingly, some themes get a little lost in Fuller’s head, leaving no one to wonder if Little Siberia was a figurative title or not. But if Petty could move a house with a raincloud above his head, then so can this guy.
