TesseracT, Intronaut, Cloud Kicker, the Odious, When They Invade

PETE COTTELL
6:30 pm., Monday April 14 | $15.
Hawthorne Theatre
1507 SE 39th Ave.

[PROG METAL] Tesseract is Coheed and Cambria minus a sense of humor. Outsized prog-metal passages run headlong into emotive preening that would be right at home on anything released by Drive-Thru Records in the mid-aughts. I’ll pass. The real treat of this bill is Ohio’s Cloudkicker, an up-and-coming instru-metal juggernaut whose sound is much like that of the headliner sans Hot Topic vocals. Started in earnest as the bedroom project of Ben Sharp, the momentum of four masterfully produced solo records urged Sharp to enlist Intronaut as his backing band, which makes plenty of sense—and a shitload of beautiful noise.
