Switchfoot, the Royal Concept

Crystal Ballroom

[ALT-ROCK] Even if you don’t realize it, Switchfoot played a role in your ’90s pop-culture experience. Who could forget Mandy Moore’s tearjerking rendition of the band’s song “Only Hope” during her turn as a cancer-ridden teen angel in A Walk to Remember? Lesser-known to the mass public, the members of Switchfoot are avid surfers (they hail from San Diego) and their ninth studio album, Fading West, came in conjunction with a surf documentary of the same name. Both the doc and album feature the band’s signature easy-listening rock, conjuring an instant sense of serenity without the aid of Mandy Moore’s Hollywood theatrics.
