[LIVE FROM NEW YORK] The Underachievers are part of hip-hop’s next generation. With short attention spans, generous drug references and a bevy of Instagram photos, they mirror the audiences they generally play for. Even though they’re signed to Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label, the production is more mainstream than abstract, with standard instrumentation and sampling. The duo represents a growing New York contingent that unleashes coherent rhymes while shrouded in a haze of smoke.
