[JAZZ] While he’s lived and worked in Amsterdam for decades, expatriate saxophonist, clarinetist and composer Michael Moore still infuses his improvisations with distinctively American melodicism and swing—unsurprising for a Northern California native who’s worked with lyrical pianist Fred Hersch and spearheaded projects focusing on Irving Berlin and Bob Dylan standards. Although adept at the avant-garde adventures that characterize much Dutch jazz, his quartet of Netherlanders also delivers more straight-ahead sounds with inventive aplomb.
