Dean Wareham, Parson Redheads

MICHAEL MANNHEIMER
10 pm, Thursday June 26 | $15 advance, $17 day of show.
Bunk Bar
1028 SE Water Ave.

[DREAMPOP MAVERICK] Though Dean Wareham has been crafting some of the most breathtaking dream-pop jams of the past 30 years, he has never, until now, released music under his own name. Fans need not worry: His new self-titled solo record doesn’t veer far from seminal outfits Galaxie 500 and Luna, as well as recent recordings with his wife as Dean and Britta. These are elegiac, funny and warm songs, filled with his undeniable guitar playing and a dense cloud of atmospheric production courtesy of My Morning Jacket’s Jim James. There are even a couple of relatively brisk tracks here, including the catchy “Holding Pattern,” driven by a fluid bass-line and solid key work, and the torch-song finale “Happy & Free”—an appropriate title, given how loose Wareham sounds on this set.
